The most valuable resource in any company is its employees. Human resource (HR) managers work to create the most effective and successful teams possible by scouting new talent and recognizing and developing the skills of existing employees. HR teams operate as the liaison between leadership and employees to see to it the workforce is well taken care of and kept highly-motivated. HR professionals work with leadership to develop policies around strategic planning to improve employee morale, maximize productivity, and reduce turn-over. HR careers draw compassionate people with strong interpersonal skills who care deeply about the needs of employees, while balancing the demands of the business.
An HR degree is an important step to begin a career in human resource management. Associate degrees in human resources provide the training for entry-level HR positions in programs that last two-years. HR management positions will more often require a four-year bachelor’s degree. In either case, these programs will include courses in performance appraisal, employee training and development, recruitment strategies for new employees, as well as labor relations, political science, and economics. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this rapidly growing field is expected to add hundreds of thousands of well-paying jobs in the next several years. The majority of HR representatives earn between $55,000 and $100,000 yearly, while those in HR management positions can earn in excess of $140,000 each year.
